Stainless steel wire fabric or wire mesh is a wide range wire cloth. To form a mesh, wires are crossed in a definite pattern, thus making a barricade or screen. It comes in different textures from being soft and silk-like to being firm like a steel plate. You can find them in the form of rolls, fabricated filters and cut circles. Industrial, horticultural and agricultural sectors use stainless steel wire mesh for various purposes.
Forming a mesh out of wires is like weaving a cloth. Wires can be woven into different patterns by machines to produce various kinds of wire mesh. There are different types of meshes for different purposes. Here are few types of stainless-steel wire meshes for you to choose from-
Square/Fine Mesh– It is one of the most used weaves. This type of wire mesh is very useful for commercial purposes. You can compose a fine mesh by passing a weft wire (where the wires run across the cloth as weaved) alternatively over and under each wrap wire (all wires that run longitudinally off as the cloth is weaved) and the other way round. These plain weave meshes come in aperture sizes 0.7mm (2 mesh) – 0.05mm (325 mesh).
Twill Weave wire mesh– Twill weave meshes are formed with large diameter wires. These meshes are strong and durable. They are formed to meet the need of filtration under high pressures. They have very smooth surfaces and are stronger than plain weave. Twill weave mesh is corrosion resistant and heavy.
Plain dutch weave wire mesh: This type of mesh is strong and dense. To compose a dutch weave wire mesh, we take wrap wires of larger diameter than the shute. We weave them in an over and under pattern. This method helps to form a high density mesh with a high particle retention quality. It is more effective than the square weave mesh. This type of weave facilitates a lower rate of flow through the mesh.
Twill dutch weave wire mesh: This mesh has similar properties to plain dutch mesh apart from its weaving style. You can get this type of mesh by passing each wire over and under two wires. It uses a small diameter shute wire like the plain Dutch wire mesh. This type of design is very durable and allows a low rate of liquid flow through the mesh. Twill dutch weave wire mesh allows a finer filtration of liquids as compared to other meshes.
Reverse twill dutch weave: This type of mesh is used to filter high pressure liquids. To make a reverse twill Dutch weave, we use a combination of coarse mesh in the wrap and smaller fine mesh in the fill. In this type of mesh, the twill pattern helps to reduce deformation of the wrap wire. It has a stable and smart design. This type of mesh is used in cleaning fuels, hydraulic liquids and water treatments.
Hollander Weave: This type of mesh is used for easy screening of the finest of the particles. Hollander weave is formed when a large number of weft wires are interwoven with a small number of wrap wires. Both types of wires are tightly knit to provide an extremely strong and dense texture to the mesh. This type of weave is used in both commercial and non commercial sectors to ease high pressure filtration of liquids.
Properties of stainless steel wire mesh:
- Low maintenance: These meshes are made of highly stable material. They do not react and are corrosion resistant. These properties ensure their reusability.
- Temperature tolerance: Stainless-steel meshes can survive extremely cold and hot conditions easily. They have high tensile strength and bear high pressure with trouble.
- Corrosion resistant: Stainless steel is composed of 18% chromium and 8% nickel alloy which gives it anti-corrosive properties.
Applications of stainless steel mesh wires:
- Used for fencing: Stainless steel wires are used in many agricultural chores like fencing, livestock barriers, pest controls, equipment repairs and much more.
- Used for filtration of liquids: Stainless steel is known for its temperature tolerant nature. When refining the crude oil, harsh chemicals are used at high temperatures. Oil refineries use steel meshes in the process of refining crude oil because of their superiority and good quality.
- Used in building and construction: Stainless steel wire meshes are used to rock and wall retention. It is used to make infill panels and for highway and bridge maintenance. Steel wire meshes play a vital role in construction industries.
Stainless steel wire mesh panels have many applications. Most of the industries use them as key products for various tasks. They are extremely durable, reusable and quite efficient. They come in many different types, shapes and sizes which makes them even more popular.
